Workpapers Product Owner
Remote
Full Time
Manager/Supervisor
We’re hiring a Product Owner to lead the Workpapers product area — owning roadmap, delivery, and customer outcomes for workpaper creation, management, and integrations.
What you’ll do
- Own the product backlog and roadmap for Workpapers within HubSync; define priorities based on customer needs, compliance, and business impact.
- Translate customer problems and regulatory/standards requirements into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritized features.
- Work closely with engineering, QA, design, and data teams to deliver iterative releases; accept stories and ensure quality.
- Drive integrations between HubSync Workpapers and external systems (document stores, ERPs, tax tools, cloud drives, RMMs), including APIs and data mapping.
- Define metadata, versioning, retention, and audit/logging requirements for workpapers to meet compliance and eDiscovery needs.
- Own UX/UX flows for workpaper authoring, review, approvals, signatures, and collaborative commenting.
- Specify role-based permissions, access controls, encryption-at-rest/in-transit, and secure sharing patterns for sensitive financial documents.
- Monitor product telemetry and KPIs (usage, time-to-completion, error rates, retention, sync success) and iterate to improve reliability and adoption.
- Interface with sales, customer success, and compliance/legal to gather feedback, prioritize fixes, and support enterprise contracts/assessments.
- Run customer pilots, beta programs, and post-release retrospectives; produce customer-facing release notes and internal enablement materials.
Must-have qualifications
- 5+ years product ownership or product management experience focused on document/workpaper, audit, or accounting workflows.
- Strong hands-on experience with workpapers: creation, templates, roll-forwards, evidentiary linking, sign-offs, version control, and retention.
- Deep understanding of accounting/audit workflows, standards (e.g., working paper practices), and compliance considerations.
- Technical literacy: experience defining APIs, data models, integrations, and working with engineering teams on design/implementation.
- Proven experience writing clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and measurable success metrics.
- Experience with RBAC, secure document sharing patterns, and audit logging requirements.
- Excellent stakeholder management — ability to balance customer needs, compliance, and engineering constraints.
- Strong analytical skills and experience using product telemetry/analytics (e.g., Looker, Mixpanel, Snowflake) to drive decisions.
Preferred / Nice-to-have
- Prior experience in SaaS products for accounting/audit, practice management, or content collaboration (e.g., CCH, Workiva, Thomson Reuters, Caseware).
- Familiarity with integrations to ERPs (NetSuite, QuickBooks), document stores (Google Drive, OneDrive), and background sync systems.
- Knowledge of data privacy/compliance requirements relevant to financial documents (SOC2, ISO, audit evidence preservation).
- Hands-on with modern product delivery tools (Jira, Confluence, Figma) and CI/CD awareness.
- Experience managing or delivering real-time sync or background job pipelines (message queues, webhooks).
Core competencies & traits
- Customer-first mindset and strong domain empathy for accounting/audit teams.
- Clear communicator who can bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Pragmatic decision-maker who balances speed, quality, and compliance.
- Detail-oriented about document integrity, provenance, and auditability.
